Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track), Social Work

The Faculty of Health and Social Development at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work commencing July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed time. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
We are seeking a social work scholar who will contribute to the School’s Indigenous scholarship through research, teaching, and service (including engagement with Syilx Okanagan nation members, urban Indigenous and Métis agencies and community leaders). The successful candidate will have a strong track record of: a) respectful collaboration with, or connections to, local and regional Indigenous communities, organizations and/or institutions; b) an established program of research with a clear focus on issues impacting or practice with First Nations, Innuit and Métis children, adults and families and c) a relevant PhD and either an undergraduate or graduate degree in Social Work (an MSW is preferred).
The ideal candidate will also bring experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous peoples in community-based outreach along with expertise in critical anti-colonial and anti-oppressive pedagogies; an understanding of the histories, narratives and social work practices, historical and current, that have impacted and continute to impact Indigenous well-being in Canada and internationally. The candidate will work with the School of Social Work faculty, staff and students regarding the School’s commitment to advancing UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan and commitment to the recommendations of the TRC.
This position will facilitate liaison between School of Social Work faculty and staff and local First Nations, urban Indigenous, and Métis organizations and community leaders to enhance the School’s capacity to graduate students with the clinical knowledge and skills to support Indigenous mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing, individually and collectively.

Salary will be commensurate with educational qualifications and experience and is subject to final budgetary approval.
