Assistant Professor- Tenure Track Position- Department of History

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island, Department of History, welcomes applications for a tenure-track position, Assistant Professor level, beginning on July 1st, 2026, in the History of Atlantic Canada.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in both Atlantic and Canadian history, including the department’s two introductory survey courses in Canadian history. Moreover, they will be expected to develop teaching and scholarship about the History of Prince Edward Island, and to participate in the interdisciplinary MA programme currently being developed within the Faculty of Arts.

An interest in public history would be considered an asset.

UPEI’s History Department has a strong reputation for excellence in teaching, and we welcome scholars who demonstrate effectiveness in the classroom.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a completed doctoral degree in the History of Canada with an emphasis on the Atlantic region; a strong record of success in teaching at the undergraduate level; and a strong record of innovative research and publishing appropriate to this level of appointment.

A complete application must include the following: a cover letter outlining how the candidate would contribute to the History Department in the area specified above, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier (including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi of courses in the subject area, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching success), a research statement outlining current and future research projects, and three academic letters of reference.

Candidates are encouraged to submit a one- page statement on how they would implement the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in their teaching, research, and scholarly work.
