The Department of Family Practice, in partnership with the UBC Continuing Professional Development (CPD) unit within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track).
The UBC Faculty of Medicine, Continuing Professional Development unit is an academic unit of the Faculty of Medicine, which offers hundreds of continuing professional development activities each year — large medical conferences, online courses and webinars, skills-based workshops, and mentoring programs. UBC CPD is a leader in medical education with a strong reputation in British Columbia and beyond. UBC CPD is at the forefront of providing effective and innovative approaches to learning and has a unique platform to influence meaningful change through connection, education, and research that support the lifelong learning of health professionals.
The UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Practice, is dedicated to improving the health of the people of British Columbia. The Department provides leadership to train clinical faculty, stimulate and facilitate academic and community-based research and education that addresses the needs of communities. Our large complement of academic, clinical, and adjunct faculty members provides exceptional opportunities for partnerships and mentoring within the Department as well as a wide range of scholarly and interdisciplinary opportunities across the Faculty of Medicine and other UBC Departments. Faculty members within the Department of Family Practice conduct research that spans a wide scope from aboriginal peoples’ health to prevention of chronic disease to social epidemiology, midwifery and maternal care, health services, systems, and policy research.
Reporting to the Head of the Department of Family Practice and in consultation with the Associate Dean, CPD, this position will be expected to play a key role in advancing education, research, organizational development, and strategic partnerships to promote excellence and innovation in team-based primary care. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a theoretically informed, practically oriented CPD research program focusing on team-based care, digital technologies, and well-being. Additionally, the incumbent will provide leadership in education scholarship by generating new knowledge and promoting effective medical education strategies. The successful candidate position is expected to utilize established and innovative CPD programs as a platform for generating theoretical advancements and practical insights, leading to practice improvements. The incumbent will work with researchers, clinicians, policy makers, and others to support the CPD research agenda focused on practice improvement and knowledge translation, and is expected to promote the dissemination of research findings, innovative programs, and evidence-informed practices aimed at improving patient care and population health locally and globally. The successful candidate will support knowledge exchange and foster a deeper understanding of the complex factors that influence improved outcomes within diverse and evolving health systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. They will work collaboratively in diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity. The successful candidate will hold a PhD, EdD, MD, or MD/PhD. Eligibility for registration and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have a focus and expertise in continuing professional development research, including the design of methodologies and the integration of emerging technologies that impact population health. The successful candidate will have experience in leading scholarly research and advising leadership on research strategies, and exploring collaborative opportunities for scholarly work. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of teaching and scholarly activity. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, and a commitment to enhancing one’s awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The expected starting salary range for this position is $135,000 to $ 150,000 per annum.
