Job description
Within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), the Department of Biomedical Signals and Systems (BSS) is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) with advanced expertise in the analysis of (multi-modal) monitoring data and patient-level prediction models. You will work on the challenges of reliably measuring and analyzing characteristics of patients with cancer or obesity, to identify high risk patients and detect late effects in an early stage.
In this position, you will be part of the national RECENTRE (Risk-based lifEstyle Change: daily-lifE moNiToring and Recommendations) program, in which we will work with patients and citizens to empower people to play a leading role in their lifestyle and health within their own environment. By holistic and high-tech monitoring of vulnerable populations in their home and tailored recommendations, we relocate care from primary/secondary care and prevent disease development or worsening, resulting in timely intervention, higher quality of life and lower healthcare costs. With our large consortium, we are connecting the four universities of technology in The Netherlands (Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, University of Twente and Wageningen University and Research) with multiple clinical, patient and knowledge organizations.
The mission of the BSS department is to enable improved diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic diseases in the home/self-care as well as clinical setting. Our research is embedded in the Technical Medicine (TechMed) and Digital Society (DSI) Institutes of the UT. Our teaching contributes to the Technical Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and CreaTe curricula.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Technical Medicine, Biomedical Engineering or similar.
  • You have expertise in the analysis of (physiological) signals and daily-life monitoring, and in developing patient-level prediction models, for example using AI techniques.
  • You have excellent communication skills and ideally experience with academic teaching.
  • You are a great teammate and can take an active role in the consortium, but also have a high degree of responsibility and independence.
  • Experience in working in clinical environments and multidisciplinary teams is an asset.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a structural position in a Tenure Track, starting with a temporary appointment of 7 years as Assistant Professor. The tenure track consists of different phases with phase one (Assistant Professor 2) and two (Assistant Professor 1) in a temporary contract. Max. 5 years after the start, an evaluation will take place and if positive, it will lead to promotion to Associate Professor in a permanent contract. The aim is to end the tenure track as a Full Professor with your own group. There is a standard probation period of two months.
  • In the Tenure Track, you will receive a starting package with: Budget to employ 1 PhD candidate at the start of the track; Your own budget for conferences/travel a k€5; Participation in training courses and individual guidance for your (personal) development.
  • In addition, at the start of your tenure track, you will make agreements with your manager and the dean about advancement to the next phase in a personal development plan.
  • The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO);
  • A starting salary between € 3.974,- to € 5.439,- gross per month (scale 11), based on your work experience;
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a solid pension scheme;
  • a minimum of 29 leave days in case of fulltime employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A fulltime employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
