The School for Studies in Art and Culture invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, beginning 1 July 2026, from qualified candidates engaged in the History and Theory of Architecture.
The candidate will be expected to teach 6 semester-length undergraduate courses, 5 in the fall and winter terms, and 1 in the spring term (May/June). The courses will include the first-year survey, “History and Theory of Architecture: Prehistory to 1500,” the second-year course, “Experiencing Architecture,” as well as specialized courses in the successful candidate’s research interests and expertise.

About the Academic Unit
Carleton University’s History and Theory of Architecture program is located within the School for Studies in Art and Culture, which also houses programs in Art History, Film Studies, and Music. Qualifications
The position requires a PhD or PhD near completion by the appointment’s start in the History and Theory of Architecture. Demonstrated teaching excellence or demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching contributions is required as well as a strong ability to contribute to the academic life of the unit.
