The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for two Tenure-track academic position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching), with a specialization in Field Education. This position can be based at the Faculty’s Lethbridge, Calgary, or Edmonton campus, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.
The position entails 80% teaching and 20% service. The teaching component will include teaching BSW, MSW and/or graduate certificate courses with Field Education and Administration engagement. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level in diverse delivery contexts and unique delivery models at undergraduate and graduate levels is required, along with a strong field education background. The service component includes service at the faculty, university and professional levels.
Scholarship-related duties of an Assistant Professor (Teaching) will normally include the scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and content of the discipline. Preference will be for experience in research and scholarship in field education.
A doctoral degree in social work or a related field (i.e. Ph.D., DSW, or Ed.D.), a master’s degree in social work (clinical practice preferred), eligibility to register with the Alberta College of Social Workers, and a minimum of five years of full-time social work practice are required. Social work teaching success must be demonstrated. Demonstration of field education experience is required, preferably in the area of field education coordination and the support of field education delivery (i.e.: supporting sessionals who are field liaisons and teaching integrated seminar). Experience as a field instructor (supervising practicum students) and teaching field education courses is required, as there will be opportunities to teach practicum and integrative seminar courses. Has demonstrated leadership in field education process and andragogy. A demonstrated commitment to supporting and promoting Indigenous models of practice and ways of knowing is required. Demonstrated knowledge and practice in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and social justice is required. Strong communication, collaboration, organizational and computer skills are required.
