Description
Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension is looking for an Assistant Professor/Livestock Predation faculty position for a 12-month appointment, non-tenure track. This position has 75% appointment with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and 25% appointment with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in San Angelo. The position has an academic appointment with the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, College Station, TX. This position primarily serves Texas livestock producers and partners with scientists in other universities, agencies, and neighboring states as appropriate.

Position Responsibilities:
• Responsible for research and educational efforts to improve livestock productivity through a reduction in wildlife and domestic animal predation to include but not limited to small ruminants located in West Central Texas.
• Develop an applied and recognized management-oriented Extension program that supports county agents and delivers best practices to livestock producers to mitigate predation of livestock.
• Supervises research and Extension personnel, including graduate students, and undergraduate students associated with properties owned and operated by the San Angelo/Sonora centers.
• Works as a member of a multi-agency/multi-disciplinary faculty team in conducting field research on increasing livestock production through reduction of predation in relation to industry needs and state and federal policy.
• Conducts independent research responsive to the need of the livestock industry; anticipates general public acceptance of technologies developed for predator management.
• Seeks extramural funding from federal, state, commodity groups, and other sources to fund research and outreach efforts.
• Participates as a team member in predation research and technology transfer/outreach with other faculty affiliated cooperating agencies and institutions in the Texas, including Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M University Department of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Angelo State University, USDA APHIS & Wildlife Service, Texas Sheep and Goat Predator Board, and the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association.
• Contributes to statewide programs in development of integrated animal production practices, lethal and nonlethal predator control tactics, and utilization of guardian animals that can contribute to improved livestock productivity and environmental protection.
• Serves a critical need for the Department of Animal Science in its effort to achieve excellence in five Areas of Excellence, specifically in the area of Quantifiable Animal Performance.
Administrative Relationships:
• Reports directly to the Center Director, Texas A&M AgriLife Research-San Angelo, with guidance from Associate Department Head for Extension, within the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, College Station.
• Directs the work of support staff, and other technical personnel and graduate students assigned to the project.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Ph. D. in Animal Science, Wildlife, or related field is preferred. M. S. degrees in animal science, wildlife, or related fields are required
• Experience in area of specialization, including small ruminant production and/or predator management
• Competence in the use of personal computers and appropriate statistical-analysis software
• Ability to write grant proposals to secure external funding
• Evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
• Participation in professional societies
• Ability to acquire a Texas driver’s license

• Experience managing research program
• Experience sourcing external funding
• Experience in leading research in livestock production or wildlife management
• Demonstrated capability to perform independent research, supervise scientific support staff and graduate students, and publish results in refereed journals
