The Department of Philosophy at the University of Manitoba invites applications for one full-time tenure-track / probationary appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an area of specialization in Applied Ethics. The area of competency is open. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to pursue, as appropriate, an externally funded innovative research program that produces internationally recognized work of the highest quality and must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching. Applicants must hold a PhD in Philosophy or a related field at the time of employment or be expected to earn their PhD soon after the start of their employment.

The position requires a combination of research, teaching, and service duties, while contributing to an inclusive and collegial work environment. The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more delivery modes that both complement the department’s strengths and address its needs in delivering its academic program. The position will also involve the supervision of MA students.

The University of Manitoba is home to the Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics, which is closely associated with the Philosophy Department. The Centre is interdisciplinary and active. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Ethics Centre. This appointment will be effective July 1, 2024. The successful candidate who holds a Ph.D. will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate who is scheduled to complete the doctoral dissertation shortly after July 1, 2024, may be appointed to a term position at the rank of Lecturer until successful completion of their degree, at which time they will convert to a probationary (tenure-track) appointment as an Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate.
