Assistant Professor: Perception and Cognition (Tenure-track)

The Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Perception and Cognition. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Qualified applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Psychology or a related area by the time of appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching, and an emphasis on areas that integrate work in perception and cognition. We seek candidates whose research and teaching complements and enhances our existing departmental strengths and demonstrates innovative theoretical and methodological approaches. Examples include but are not limited to individual differences, computational modeling, development/aging, and work with clinically-relevant populations.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an internationally competitive, active, innovative, independent, externally funded program of research and to contribute to the education and training of undergraduate students as well as graduate students enrolled in the Tri-Campus Graduate Program in Psychology. There will be opportunities to collaborate with UTM psychologists in research clusters focused on Behavioural Neuroscience, Developmental Science, Perception, Cognition and Language, and/or Health, Adaptation and Well-being, as well as with researchers on other campuses of the University of Toronto.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, a submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, a demonstrated ability to attract external research funding, and strong endorsements from referees of international standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by the applicant’s teaching accomplishments and a teaching dossier, which should include a teaching and mentoring statement, teaching evaluations and/or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters. Experience with a range of course delivery formats, and experience in teaching or mentoring diverse groups or diverse students, will be highly valued.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
