Description

Clemson University’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) (https://www.clemson.edu/cbshs/departments/prtm/ ) in the College of BSHS (https://www.clemson.edu/cbshs/ ) seeks applicants for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus on sport management. This position starts August 2023 and is located on the campus of Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.

We seek a faculty member who will continue the program’s excellence in teaching and demonstrate an emerging line of fundable research related to sport. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty across the PRTM department, College of Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences, and broader university; conduct relevant research, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, advise and mentor graduate students through theses and dissertations, engage in departmental, college, and university service, and carry out other departmental duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in parks, recreation, tourism, sport management or a related field.
  • Experience or demonstrated potential to develop a successful, funded line of inquiry related to sport management.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach courses in the PRTM undergraduate and graduate core curriculum including programming, administration, finance/budgeting, marketing/promotions, risk management, etc.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach and develop courses in sport management and leadership; sport governance and policy; recreational and amateur sport; sport finance; sport facility management; sport marketing; managing staff and volunteers; inclusion and diversity in sport; sport data analytics; sports information; trends and issues in sport; and other courses that meet industry needs and student interests.
  • • Knowledge of professional career pathways in the sport industry, including amateur and youth sport, sport for development, sport governing bodies, non-profit and philanthropic sport, international sport, campus recreational sport and collegiate athletics, professional sport, adaptive sport, etc.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach in multiple environments (face-to-face, hybrid, and both synchronous and asynchronous online).
  • Experience working with, supervising, and/or developing field-based learning, practica, and/or internships in the sport industry
  • Experience serving diverse audiences and communities and awareness of student engagement through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.
  • Professional experience working in the sport industry preferred.
