| About this Opportunity | The ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism and Strategic Communication at Ball State University (BSU) offers undergraduate majors in strategic communication: advertising, strategic communication: public relations, media design and development, journalism education, and journalism with concentrations in photographic storytelling, magazine media, news writing and reporting, as well as graduate programs in journalism, public relations, and emerging media design and development. The School’s innovative curricular approach and exceptional co-curricular opportunities promise to graduate advertising and public relations professionals prepared for the strategic communication careers of the future. The unit’s state-of-the-art facilities include the Holden Strategic Communication Center, which is the home to the School’s student agency, McKinley Ave. The agency works in cooperation with BSU student media including the Daily News (print and online newspaper), Ball Bearings (print and online magazine), NewsLink Indiana (television newscast), and Byte (online entertainment magazine), which are housed in the Unified Media Lab. The Center for Emerging Media Design and Development is the School’s interdisciplinary storytelling lab that combines human-computer interaction, usability and user experience, design thinking, and transmedia storytelling to develop innovative strategic communication projects. Faculty research interdisciplinary topics in usability and user experience, virtual and augmented reality, mass communication, and storytelling both individually and cooperatively utilizing wide-ranging methods including eye tracking and psychophysiology in the School’s Unified Research Lab. |

| Description | The School of Journalism and Strategic Communication invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor in Strategic Communication available August 2023. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the strategic communication advertising and public relations majors; publishing peer-reviewed scholarship, and providing service to the college and university. The successful incumbent may have the opportunity to seek an appointment as the Marilyn Weaver Faculty Fellow. The fellowship, which may be renewed for up to three years, offers a supplementary salary stipend and additional financial support for scholarship and/or projects. |
| Minimum Qualifications | Ph.D. in advertising, public relations, journalism, mass communications, or closely related field from an accredited institution. |

| Preferred Qualifications | Evidence of peer-reviewed publications; evidence of teaching effectiveness; two years of full-time professional experience in strategic communication (e.g., advertising and/or public relations); a professional or academic emphasis in digital, analytics, sports, health, or international strategic communication. Experience or certification in change management and/or project management. |
