Job Summary
| Job Summary | The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Concord University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Physics at the rank of assistant professor beginning January 2022. The position requires the ability to develop and teach: An introductory calculus- or trigonometry-based physics sequence and affiliated laboratory sections for science, health, and computer science majors, general education courses such as astronomy or physical science for education majors, and upper-level electives such computational physics and other courses within the candidate’s area of expertise for a minor in physics is possible. Applications are open to any subfield of physics. A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required. The Department offers degree programs in environmental geosciences and chemistry, and a minor in physics. The Department also offers service courses to majors in computer science, biology, health sciences, and teacher education. The Department values and actively supports innovative teaching and participation in undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. The Department maintains a diverse array of instrumentation for teaching and undergraduate research, including an observatory, electron microprobe, AFM, facilities for analytical chemistry, a teaching computer lab with MATLAB, and equipment supporting field geophysics. Department faculty lead or co-lead numerous externally funded projects, including the NSF Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, an NSF REU in arctic geology, and NSF EarthCube. |
