The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, California State University Fullerton (http://chemistry.fullerton.edu ) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in organic chemistry, preferably at the Assistant Professor level, to begin in August 2023.

Position
The successful candidates will be expected to: be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring students of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; maintain an active, externally-funded research program involving undergraduate and master’s students; and devote a portion of his/her time to engaging in departmental, college and university service. Of particular interest to us are candidates whose research complements the department’s existing biochemistry, chemistry, and chemistry education research programs and/or will further expand research opportunities at the interface of chemistry and biology. Interdisciplinary collaborations within the department and college are strongly encouraged.

The Department
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (http://chemistry.fullerton.edu ) is comprised of 18 full-time, tenured/tenure-track faculty with more than 600 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. We have long been committed to an educational program that provides high quality state-of-the-art teaching and research experiences for our students. From lecture and laboratory courses in biochemistry, organic, analytical, inorganic and physical chemistry to specialized courses, including nutritional, environmental, protein, nucleic acid, physical biochemistry and metabolism, as well as medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, instrumental analysis, and chemistry education, our students are exposed to a wide and interdisciplinary knowledge base. The Department is located in two buildings – McCarthy Hall and Dan Black Hall that house a growing inventory of major instrumentation, including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, an X-band EPR spectrometer, several GC and GC/MS instruments, FTIR spectrometers, Raman spectrometer, atomic absorption spectrometers, laser flash photolysis, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, fluorimeters, and other instruments basic to biochemistry. Additional specialized resources include tissue culture and radioisotope rooms. A broad variety of modern, research-grade instruments and facilities are available and shared within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Departmental extramural funding includes active research grants from a variety of agencies, including NSF, NIH, Research Corporation, the ACS Petroleum Research Fund, and other agencies, as well as program grants supporting students in specific undergraduate research programs, such as NIH-MHIRT, and LSAMP. Degrees offered are the BA in Chemistry, BS in Chemistry and BS in Biochemistry, with optional emphases in Environmental Chemistry or Biotechnology, and the MS in Chemistry (which includes chemistry and biochemistry subspecialties). Some faculty members in the department are active in the Center for Applied Biotechnology Studies (http://cabs.fullerton.edu/default.asp ) whereas others are involved in new centers concerned with the environment, resources and sustainability, computational and applied mathematics (CCAM), and discipline-based science/chemistry education research (CATALYST).

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
