Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Required
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and community members.
– Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
– Excellent organizational skills to be effective in managing short term and long term tasks.
– Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment in analyzing situations, making decisions, and problem solving.
– Ability to work under pressure with frequent changes.

Preferred
– Knowledge of and an ability to integrate instructional strategies and technologies in an online classroom.

Typical Experience:
Required
– Two years full-time or equivalent in a healthcare/office setting.
– Experience teaching college level coursework and/or on the job training/supervising in a healthcare environment.
– Experience working with a diverse staff or teaching nontraditional, ethnically diverse, or underprepared students.

Preferred
– Post-secondary instruction and course administration experience as the instructor of record, teaching HIM courses or health information technology courses or career training, continuing education or professional development training experience.
– Experience interpreting students’ needs to produce effective instructional, interactive, course materials.
– Experience in health information technology, information security, database or system administration, or related field.
– Experience teaching blended, hybrid or fully online courses in a higher education environment.
– Experience working with electronic health records.
– Professional experience in a management-related position in the healthcare industry.

Required Education or Training:

Required
– Credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or other AHIMA credential.
– Baccalaureate degree or commit to obtaining a Baccalaureate degree in related area (health information, health services administration, business, computer science, education, or other health-related area) within two years.

Preferred
– Master’s degree in related area (health information, health services administration, business, computer science, education, or other health-related area).
– Information technology or database related certifications.

Salary Information:

This is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment located in Alaska, with a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package .
