Position Title:  Tenure-Track Faculty Member for Early Childhood Education

Summary: The Early Childhood program at GVSU is looking for an assistant tenure track faculty member to help serve graduate and undergraduate students pursuing careers working with children in early childhood and early childhood special education, ages birth to kindergarten. Primary responsibilities include: teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in early childhood and early childhood special education, both in person and using online synchronous and asynchronous modalities; supervising candidates in the field; advising students in early childhood education programs; participating in service obligations; and conducting meaningful research that will be disseminated to a diverse audience.

Required Qualifications and Education:

• An earned PhD degree or ABD in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Child Development, or Teacher Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood, Family Studies, or Human or Child Development
• At least three years’ experience working with young children and young children with disabilities and their families (ages infant/toddler, preschool, or Kindergarten)
• The capacity to travel to provide clinical supervision in diverse settings
• The ability to engage with a variety of technologies to deliver instruction in online synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid modalities
• Skill in delivering high quality and engaging instruction to adult learners
• A passion for teaching culturally relevant, responsive, and sustaining pedagogies and preparing teachers to work with diverse populations
• A commitment to educating the whole child and promoting inclusive teaching practices
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Coursework and/or experience in research methods that can be utilized to engage in empirical research
• The ability to disseminate findings to a scholarly audience
• The ability to collaborate in developing, implementing, and evaluating unit/university programs and activities
• The ability to contribute professional expertise to the community or profession

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

• Extensive experience working in Early Childhood Special Education preschools or Part C-funded Early Intervention or Infant Mental Health Services
• The ZS teaching endorsement, as awarded by the Michigan Department of Education
• Proven experience with online instruction
• Experience doing clinical supervision with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, both in person and using online tools
• Professional membership or involvement with NAEYC or CEC
• Experience teaching university courses related to Strategies for Infant and Toddler Development, Working with Children with Disabilities and Developmental Delays, Supporting Diverse Families, Foundations of Early Childhood, Child Guidance, and Supporting Social Emotional Learning and Positive Behavior Supports
• Proven track record of disseminating research in peer-reviewed journals, books, and through scholarly presentations
• History of working on program evaluation and/or with accreditation standards
• Experience working with General Education Requirements at the university level

Responsibilities – Essential Functions:

• Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in early childhood and early childhood special education, both in person and using online synchronous and asynchronous modalities (three courses in the fall semester, three courses in the winter semester, with the option of teaching two courses in the summer)
• Supervising candidates in diverse settings and using online tools
• Advising students in early childhood education programs
• Participating in service obligations at the unit, college, university, and community level
• Conducting and disseminating meaningful empirical research for a diverse audience

Responsibilities – Non-Essential Functions:

• Assisting with outreach efforts within the local early childhood community
• Assisting with accreditation reports and program evaluation
