Job Summary:

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for an Assistant Professor (full-time tenure track) to teach undergraduate courses in cinema studies, open field for Fall 2023. The successful applicant will join a Department and a school characterized by a strong sense of collaboration and community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified tenure track candidates will hold either a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in cinema studies or related fields
  • Ability to teach effectively

Essential Functions:

  • Teach current and future cinema studies courses at the introductory level, Film History, Film Theory and Criticism, as well as upper-level electives such as Race & Ethnicity in Film, Gender in Media, Latin American/Latinx cinema, or Fashion and Film, among others.
  • Conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Engage in academic advising, assessment, and service to the institution and to the candidate’s academic discipline/profession. 
  • Supervise student groups.
  • Participate in curricular development and planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of teaching at the collegiate level with evidence of effective teaching
  • An emerging scholarly trajectory

Required Application Documents:

Advancing candidates may be asked to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in the form of sample syllabi and assignments, teaching statement, diversity statement, a writing sample, and other additional materials.

The Film, TV, Games, and Interactive Media Department fosters critical thinking, strong hands-on skills, and creativity in the study and production of media. Drawing from a strong liberal arts foundation, the program integrates the history, theory, and analysis of visual culture with production experience and internship opportunities in the areas of television, film, interactive media, and game design. It prepares students for fulfilling careers in a wide range of media industries, and for graduate programs in production and media studies. This liberal arts degree fosters critical thinking and its creative application in the areas of Film, Television, Interactive Media, and Game Design.
