Position Summary:
The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) seeks candidates with expertise in Computational Neuroscience to add to its faculty at the John D. MacArthur campus in Jupiter, Florida. We welcome candidates using modeling and deep learning/machine learning algorithms to solve neuroscience challenges, such as neural circuit tracing, subcellular imaging of living and fixed brain tissue samples; or the analysis of large datasets from optical imaging or high density neuronal ensemble recordings during simple and complex behaviors. We particularly welcome candidates who would take advantage of FAU’s and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience’s world class imaging core facilities and build collaborations within and between the institutes.
The Jupiter campus is the site of FAU’s growing life science establishment. Two other research institutions, Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and UF Scripps, share the Jupiter campus, and provide numerous opportunities for collaboration among the three institutions. FAU has moved several life scientists from Biological Sciences and Psychology to this campus and has established foci in brain science and health science on the campus to complement UF Scripps and Max Planck. A new FAU research building will be opening in January 2023 to house the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute.
Candidates will have a record of research accomplishments, experience in or potential obtaining extramural funding, teaching experience and a commitment to excellence in education. The candidate will teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in neuroscience and in areas of their interest that help meet programmatic needs.
As part of FAU’s overall strategic plan “Race to Excellence,” Florida Atlantic University has identified Neuroscience as an area of research strength and is building an FAU Health network with a variety of regional health care partners. We seek candidates who will enjoy and maintain the collaborative and interdisciplinary cultures established by the scientists at FAU and the faculty of the DBS. The successful candidate will foster innovation and excellence across FAU, and with local, national, and international partners and will be an active member of FAU graduate programs in Integrative Biology and Neuroscience. Diversity and Inclusion are core values of the Department of Biological Sciences. We believe that the educational environment is enhanced when diverse groups of people with diverse ideas come together to learn. Applicants whose work incorporates a global perspective and a demonstrated commitment to diversity of thought in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.
