| Position Summary | The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Business at Gannon University invites applications for two (2) tenure-track positions for Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The nine-month appointment will begin in August 2023. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses, develop and implement a sustainable research program, and will have a key role in developing pioneering industry collaborations and research initiatives by engaging with internal/external program stakeholders. Gannon University is committed to excellence in student-centered learning with an emphasis on student-learning outcomes. The faculty member will work collaboratively with colleagues, deliver instruction, advise students, engage in scholarly activities in keeping with the Boyer Model of Scholarship (as is appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at Gannon), and engage in University, professional, and community service activities. The successful candidate must be able to support and promote the University’s inclusive Mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts and professional education traditions. | Required Qualifications | Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with significant professional and/or research experience in the broad area of solid mechanics, including dynamic systems and control, materials science, or manufacturing. Rank: In accordance with the University’s standards, the Provost and Vice President for Student Experience awards initial rank at the time of employment. Completion of dissertation is required for rank of Assistant Professor and placement on the tenure track. | Preferred Qualifications | Computational and/or experimental background is a plus, and previous academic experience is preferred. Candidates expecting to complete their dissertation by August 1, 2023, will be considered. |
| Physical Demands | Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a normal academic environment. Work is performed in a normal classroom and office setting. |
