Job Information and Responsibilities
The Department of Social Justice & Community Studies (SJCS) at Saint Mary’s University, on the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people, invites applications for a 9-month Limited-Term Appointment (LTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor (1 December 2024 until 31 August 2025).
Experience and Education Requirements
We seek a critically engaged, anti-racist scholar with a specialization in intersectional unequal power relations. The candidate must have a demonstrated capacity to teach the following courses: Social Power Relations; Canadian Society & Social Justice; a 3rd year undergraduate Special Topics Course that will enhance SJCS curriculum. A PhD is preferred, but exceptional candidates who are ABD will be considered. The Department is committed to equity and diversity as essential to academic excellence. Candidates with lived experience at the intersections of racialization, colonization, Indigeneity, disability, and queerness are especially encouraged to apply.
The Department of SJCS houses a range of scholarly interests in Social Justice & Community Studies. Central to the Department’s work is an emphasis on social justice and community engagement, and a commitment to advancing rigorous scholarly understandings of how local and global social realities are shaped by unequal power relations. The successful candidates will play a role in the pedagogical, administrative, and community-engaged life of the Department.

Applicants should submit an application package consisting of the following six items only, merged into 1 file:
1) a letter of application addressing all the criteria laid out above;
2) a curriculum vitae;
3) a teaching dossier including recent evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g. peer and/or student course evaluations, teaching letters of reference) and two relevant sample syllabi in the advertised areas, including a potential Special Topics course;
4) one example of recent scholarly writing;
5) graduate school transcripts; and
6) the names and contact information for three referees (who can be asked for reference letters).
