UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA — The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business invites applications from Indigenous scholars to fill two tenure-track/tenured positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. We welcome applicants from Indigenous nations and communities worldwide who have or are near to completing a PhD in Business or Management. These appointments will begin on September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the University of Victoria stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. The candidate’s qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $146,790 – $181,328. UVic is committed to offering an equitable and competitive salary, inclusive of a generous benefits package, eligible leaves, and pension plan.
We are seeking energetic and dynamic colleagues with the potential or recognition for leadership in the field of Indigenous organizing, entrepreneurship, management, and social innovation. A demonstrated ability to develop and sustain generative partnerships with Indigenous communities and prior experience working with Indigenous Peoples and teaching Indigenous students are considered assets. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research and teaching interests complement and connect with the strengths of current faculty in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.
Our faculty are globally recognized leaders in conducting cutting edge research on such topics as Indigenous organizing, entrepreneurship, business and human rights, climate change strategy, alleviation of poverty and inequality, health and meaning at work. We seek to complement and extend our already vibrant research community with scholars dedicated to publishing high quality research in top-rated academic journals. Qualified candidates must have either an established publishing record or a strong research pipeline of scholarly papers targeted to such journals, as well as interest in supervising PhD students.
Scholarship and teaching at Gustavson are strongly aligned around our three areas of specialization (International Business, Service Management and Entrepreneurship) and our guiding pillars (Sustainable/Socially Responsible, International, Innovative, and Integrative). We offer Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Business Administration and Masters of Global Business degrees – all of which have a sustainability focus embedded in their curriculum and include a strong co-op component – as well as a PhD in International Management and Organization. We are a pioneer in integrating curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate level and seek candidates who can work across traditional functional boundaries.
The experiential dimension in our academic programs includes a mandatory co-op program for all undergraduate students, international exchanges, and overseas co-op work opportunities. In line with this approach, we will give preference to candidates with direct business experience and international experience. Candidates must also demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring and/or clear support for diversity and inclusiveness in teaching and research.
Gustavson is one of the few North American schools that is accredited by both the European Federation of Management Development (EQUIS) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Qualified candidates for this position must have a PhD from a research-intensive university that is AACSB or EQUIS accredited. They must also have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate proficiency in the classroom.
