Position Details:

The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., invites applications for a permanent full-time tenure-track position, at the Assistant level to begin August 16, 2023.

Summary of Duties:

Contribute to one or more of the College’s research areas through graduate and undergraduate teaching, scholarship, and grant-seeking in political or environmental communication.  Teach courses in the Strategic Communication Department in the Murrow College of Communication. In addition, candidates are expected to collaborate with interdisciplinary research groups and centers.

Required Qualifications:

Earned Ph.D. or nearing completion of dissertation in communication or a related area before the date of hire but with all Ph.D. degree requirements completed before start of employment, as well as evidence of potential for a productive research agenda in political or environmental communication and evidence of potential for successful teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

We seek candidates with demonstrated success in research focused on political or environmental communication with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: misinformation/disinformation, communication campaigns, social and digital media, digital advertising, and media effects. Preference will be given to scholars whose research program contributes to civic and political engagement among remote, rural, under-represented or marginalized groups.

Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate courses in advertising, crisis or risk communication, and graduate courses in political or environmental communication. We prefer candidates with a strong research record who can demonstrate success in or high potential for securing extramural research funding.

The Murrow College of Communication features two undergraduate departments, Strategic Communication and Journalism and Media Production. The Murrow graduate program includes residential MA and PhD programs as well a professionally oriented online MA program.
