ROLE of the POSITION

The Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender and Ethnic Studies, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall, 2023. The successful candidate will be part of an innovative, cross-college Ethnic and Equity Studies Cluster and should have a strong interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and publishing. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and teaching expertise in interdisciplinary and/or creative approaches to one or more of the following areas: the African Diaspora, Environmental Justice, race and health inequities, including sexual health and reproductive justice, Race and Geography Studies, Black feminist theory, Black queer and/or trans studies, or Afro-Latinx studies.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE

Located in the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies houses a number of dynamic undergraduate degree programs, including African American and Diaspora Studies, American Indian and Indigenous Studies, Asian and Asian American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Latinx and Latin American Studies, Multidisciplinary Studies, and Social Science Studies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a doctorate degree in Africana, African American Studies, African Diaspora Studies, Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and must also have experience teaching at the post-secondary level in one or more of the above-noted fields and experience with and commitment to working with a diverse student population.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Methodological diversity is encouraged, and successful grant writing experience is preferred although not required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the potential to achieve excellence in research, undergraduate education and advising, and service within the university. The Department especially welcomes candidates who are interested in collaborative research and who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the University’s academic community through their teaching and service.
