Assistant Professor, Human Cardiopulmonary Physiology

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health at the University of Waterloo is seeking an exceptional scholar and researcher for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of cardiopulmonary physiology. In special circumstances, qualified candidates who are at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is an inter-disciplinary department with expertise spanning the scientific study of human movement. The focus of the department is to discover and explain mechanisms and fundamentals of human movement and to apply this knowledge to the prevention of illness and injury using strategies that optimize health and physical performance. The department offers B.Sc., M.Kin., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Kinesiology and Health Sciences. The successful candidate must have a PhD with evidence of a productive research program within the area of human cardiopulmonary physiology. Candidates are expected to have a strong portfolio of scholarly research, evidence of an ability to obtain extramural funding and the potential for excellence in teaching. In addition to advancing a personal research program, candidates will have the opportunity to work as part of multidisciplinary teams. We welcome applications from individuals across a range of areas of expertise or research themes related to cardiopulmonary physiology. Areas of research complement that would augment research and teaching opportunities within the department would include exercise physiology, sympathetic regulation, aging, growth and development, high-performance, and health technologies. Individuals planning to develop or having both a fundamental and applied human research focus on cardiopulmonary physiology are particularly encouraged to apply. Primary duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the department and/or university.

Research opportunities exist not only within the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences and its 20,000 ft2 Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE), but also within associated research clusters including the Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorder (CRE-MSD), the Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology (CBB), and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA).

Based on qualifications, the salary range for this position will range from $90,000 to $130,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
