Applications are invited for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Division of BioMedical Sciences (BMS), Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an active, independent, and externally funded research program in an area of Human Genetics and Genomics that bridges basic biomedical and clinical research.

Applicants are required to have a PhD, postdoctoral research experience or equivalent training, with the capacity for and a commitment to excellence in research. Candidates with training in various genetics disciplines will be considered. Furthermore, the successful applicant is expected to contribute to the medical education curriculum, undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Research strengths of BMS include cardiovascular sciences, cancer and development research, immunology and infectious diseases, genetics, and neurosciences. The BMS Division, the Faculty of Medicine and Memorial University offers an attractive research environment, with core scientific services and recently updated facilities including animal care, a fluorescence-activated cell sorting facility, and state-of-the-art technologies in electron and fluorescent microscopy. High-performance computing resources are also available, supported by the Centre for Analytics, Informatics and Research (CAIR) along with high-capacity sequencing facilities including Sanger and Illumina sequencers housed within the BMS research building. Decades of research in this recognized genetic isolate has resulted in robustly ascertained, multigenerational multiplex pedigrees with segregating heritable disorders across all bodily systems. Multiple opportunities for gene identification and variant classification exist. The candidate is expected to foster a close working relationship with the Centre for Translational Genomics, a collaboration between Memorial University and the Newfoundland and Labrador Heath Services, to incorporate research opportunities that serve our local communities into their research program.
