    Position description

    The Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for one or more tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank, 100% time. The field is open. Additional positions might be available, pending funding, with a particular emphasis on research in inequality.

    The Department of Economics is among the largest teaching and research departments at UC Berkeley, and is consistently ranked among the top five in its field worldwide. The department employs 15 departmental staff, approximately 45 ladder-rank faculty, and maintains a total academic membership of approximately 70 including joint appointments, lecturers, visiting faculty and active emeritus.

    The Department is interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, in higher education through their teaching, research, and service.

    Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    ENTRY LEVEL:
    Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international) degree-granting program at the time of application.

    Preferred qualifications

    ENTRY LEVEL:
    Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in Economics or a related field completed by date of appointment preferred.

    LATERAL LEVEL:
    Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in Economics or a related field; candidates that hold an active tenure-track faculty position.

    LATERAL LEVEL

    Position title: Assistant Professor of Economics

    The lateral search pool is intended for applicants who hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), who are at more advanced stages in their career, e.g. those who hold an active tenure-track assistant professor position, and will be considered among a group of candidates at similar career stages.

    Letters of references are not requested by the department until a candidate is selected as a finalist for the position.
