Position Summary:

The department of Biological Sciences (DBS) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Ecology or Landscape Ecology at the rank of Assistant Professor. Successful candidates will have research focusing on, but not limited to, population, community, or landscape ecology, food-web dynamics, genetics, invasive species, conservation biology and/or climate change. Candidates applying contemporary quantitative techniques and modeling of observational, experimental, or molecular data are preferred. Preferred applicants will also complement programmatic strengths in marine, coastal, freshwater, or wetland ecology and can take advantage of research opportunities in local ecosystems.

The candidate should have a strong record of research accomplishments, demonstrated potential for extramural funding, and a commitment to excellence in education. It is expected that the candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology and in areas of their expertise that meet programmatic needs.

As part of FAU’s overall strategic plan “Race to Excellence,” Florida Atlantic University has identified Ocean and Environmental Science & Technology as areas of research strength. We seek candidates who can foster innovation and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting across FAU Colleges and within the DBS. The successful candidate will participate in FAU graduate programs in Integrative Biology, Marine Science and Oceanography, and Environmental Science. Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in ecology, biology, environmental science, marine biology or a closely related discipline at the time of application. Post-doctoral experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a strong publication record commensurate with their experience, demonstrated potential for establishing programs of extramurally funded and independent research, and clear promise of excellent instructional capacity. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to understand cultural and learning differences among students and be able to foster and create educational opportunities where all student populations thrive.
