Assistant Professor – Department of Accounting & Finance

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire, and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Accounting and Finance is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in Finance with an emphasis in Financial Planning. Our Finance concentration prepares students to have knowledge and skills to handle financial issues (e.g., budgeting, raising capital, investments, exchange rate risk, etc.). Financial Planning concentration prepares students to have the skills and abilities to solve financial planning problems (e.g., pension or retirement planning, risk management/insurance, tax and estate planning, etc.). The concentration builds on knowledge of Financial Planning and related finance disciplines, investments, communication skills, ethics, and problem solving. Its curriculum is being revised to align with the curricular requirements of Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Supporting the University’s and Jack H Brown College’s strategic plans, which include partnership with community to enhance the social, economic, diverse, and cultural conditions of the community and beyond, is highly regarded.  Teaching assignments at both San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses may be expected. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Finance or Financial Planning from an AACSB Accredited Business School.
  • Qualified to teach finance and financial planning courses.
  • Ph.D. degree must be completed by the appointment date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional and/or educational experience in Financial Planning, and/or CFP license.
  • Experience related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
