| Position Summary: | Teach multiple levels of studio techniques including but not limited to concert jazz styles, modern/contemporary, ballet, and/or non-Western dance forms for our BA and MFA dance programs. Teach one or more of the following dance studies courses: dance appreciation, dance technology/screendance, dance anatomy/kinesiology, dance pedagogy. Choreograph original work and/or re-stage masterworks on students for pre-professional company Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre and other dance productions as well as coach student creative work for student-choreographed dance concerts. Participate in recruitment, mentoring and advising of students, committee work, and service to the department and the university. Demonstrate a commitment to teaching in a multicultural environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Contribute to the governance and administration of the program. Expectation of significant external creative activity/research to build and maintain a national/international professional presence in the field of dance. |

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Dance. Strong background in performance and/or choreography. Evidence of teaching excellence at the college level in various styles of dance technique and dance related academic courses. Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues. Evidence of commitment to collaboration, diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging in the arts and higher education. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with graduate dance students and contributing to a Dance MFA program. Ability to teach a variety of studio technique classes which could include non-Western dance forms, commercial dance, hip hop, Gaga, somatic forms, or other areas of expertise. Ability to teach academic dance courses related to one’s area of creative activity/research. |
