| Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, is recruiting to fill a tenure-track faculty position focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion in computing and computing education. This is an open-rank search and outstanding candidates at all levels are encouraged to apply. The position start date will be on or after July 1, 2023 and the successful applicant may also be considered for a joint appointment in an appropriate unit across campus. Along with an appointment as a tenure-track/tenured faculty member in the Department of Computer Science, the successful applicant will serve as the Director of the Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing (I4C), whose mission is to support women and individuals from historically excluded populations in computing and help propel them into tech education and careers (https://inclusion.cs.umd.edu/ ). I4C has a full time staff of four and is funded with more than $4 million of gifts and grants. It runs a variety of successful programs at the intersection of academia, industry, and community, including programs for K-12 students and current computing students across campus. Each year, over 1,600 K-12 students and educators and over 1,000 UMD students directly engage with I4C programming including K-12 outreach, tutoring, mentoring, affinity group support, conference travel, summer programs, and community building. The Director will provide leadership for the center, the computer science department, and the broader campus community on diversity and inclusion-based programs in computing, as well as for systemic change and policy efforts needed to support students from historically excluded populations in computing. In addition, the Director will spearhead activities such as curriculum innovation, DEI learning outcomes, and diversity initiatives in computing research such as the NSF Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) efforts. The computer science department is committed to building a diverse faculty dedicated to its missions of research, teaching, and service to the community, and it especially encourages applications from women and members of populations historically excluded in computing. In addition, candidates who have experience engaging with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students and contributing to a climate of inclusivity are encouraged to discuss their perspectives on these subjects in their application material. Interested candidates should apply online in order to receive consideration. Applicants are strongly encouraged to have complete versions of their materials – including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a diversity statement highlighting experience with diversity, equity and inclusion activities, research and teaching statements, and recommendation letters from at least four references – uploaded by 12/31/2022.
