Summary of Position The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Statistics at the Assistant Professor level, starting in the Fall semester of 2023. The department is housed in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics, including a PhD program in Statistics.
The responsibilities of the position include (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate statistics courses for majors and non-majors, (2) developing new courses in statistics (3) advising undergraduate and graduate students, (4) developing a successful research program that includes independent methodological research in statistics, collaborative work with colleagues and graduate students and active pursuit of external funding to support research activities, and (5) providing service to the department, college, university, and profession.
Applications should include a cover letter, a resume/vita, a research statement, a teaching statement, a diversity statement, graduate school transcripts (official or unofficial), and three professional letters of reference, at least one of which addresses teaching experience. Reference letters must be submitted directly by the referees. The diversity statement needs to include how your research, syllabi, classroom pedagogy, or other aspects of your professional work have contributed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusive practices.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate at the time of appointment in Statistics or a closely related field. Candidates from all areas of statistics will be considered, which include, but are not limited to, Bayesian statistics, statistical machine learning, modern nonparametric statistics, modern multivariate statistics, network data, and spatial statistics. We are seeking candidates who have a strong commitment to both teaching and research, and the successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research program in statistical methodology. Candidates with academic research experience after Ph.D. (e.g., postdoc, research faculty) are especially encouraged to apply.
