Assistant Professor

Medical College of Wisconsin

Position Description:

We are recruiting a Board Certified or Board Eligible Colon and Rectal Surgeon to join our group of five surgeons in the Division of Colorectal Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position will include clinic and operating time at our major teaching affiliate, Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and the Froedtert Surgery Center. Patients at Froedtert Hospital are seen at the MCW/Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center and at the Froedtert Hospital Surgical Specialties Clinic.

As an academic center, our major missions include education and research in addition to providing excellent clinical care. The successful applicant will be expected to teach residents, fellows, and students who are on the Colorectal Surgery Service at Froedtert Hospital. They would also be expected to be involved in clinical and/or translational research, or educational research, based on interests and background. We would also expect the successful candidate to be committed to fostering relationships with our colleagues in the multi-disciplinary care of our colon and rectal cancer patients (within our Nationally Accredited Program for Rectal Cancer) and our colleagues in various other surgical specialties (Surgical Oncology, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Urology, Gynecology, Urogynecology and Gastroenterology) who work with us in caring for patients with complex surgical issues.

Our Department of Surgery is comprised of eleven Divisions, nine clinical Divisions, a Division of Research, and a Division of Education. The Division of Colorectal Surgery is one of the clinical Divisions and was established in 2010. Our practice is strictly colorectal and includes a significant volume of colon and rectal cancer, the breadth of both benign and malignant anal and rectal pathology, inflammatory disease – including diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease, and functional disease including treatment of pelvic floor and continence issues. Laparoscopy and robotic surgery are a large part of our abdominal practice. We have a robust research program and a full time Colorectal Research Coordinator who assists with all our clinical, translational, and industry sponsored research projects.

Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate is someone who has trained at an upper echelon program for residency and fellowship. Advanced training beyond the standard fellowship would be a bonus. A person with a special interest in IBD would be attractive to us, and a person who has excellent technical skills for open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery.  And finally , a person who has some research background and a record of publication.
