General Description: An outstanding director of clinical education is sought for the development of the clinical practicum  in the new Master of Science in Imaging Sciences Program (M.S. in Imaging Sciences). The M.S. in Imaging Sciences program seeks a director of clinical education and educator who will contribute to the research and educational missions of the School of Health Professions (SHP) at UT Health San Antonio, as well as other duties associated with a full-time faculty appointment in the SHP. The person will also be responsible for the development of didactic lecture content, course instruction, and comprehensive student advising. The faculty member’s annual assignment is negotiated with the program director  based on the needs of the program. This position exemplifies the mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with UT Health San Antonio’s policies and procedures.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the coordinator and a primary course instructor for courses offered within the program at the discretion of the program director , and based on the needs of the program.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate instruction, including course goals, objectives, learning activities, and student evaluation methods (examinations, projects, assignments, etc.), and assure quality control.
  • Conduct clinical practicum affiliations/agreements, clinical site evaluations, and assessments of students and clinical preceptors, as well as provide clinical preceptorship as needed by the program.
  • Recruit and retain students, counsel and advise students; review student prerequisites and approve enrollment.
  • Assign relevant projects and assignments, providing timely and meaningful feedback to facilitate learning.
  • Organize and manage Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT) accreditation procedures.
  • Oversee SHP publications (e.g., catalog, program handbooks, and student handbooks ).
  • Oversee development and compliance with SHP policy and coordination with university policy including program specialty accreditation and PROA.
  • Serve on departmental, school, and university-wide committees.
  • Support  research and scholarship in the faculty member’s area of specialty, including publication of peer-reviewed research.
  • Seek out and pursue externally-funded grant opportunities.
  • Serve as program director’s office ex-officio committee member where appropriate.
  • Performs other administrative tasks as assigned by the program director..

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge:        Master’s degree in radiological sciences, medical imaging sciences, or health professions required.

              Current radiography and computed tomography certifications by The American Registry of Radiologic

                                Technologists required.

                                Radiography licensure in the state of Texas is required.

                                A minimum of two years of medical imaging field experience is required.

                                Current active membership in related professional associations required.

                                Experience in working for a JRCERT accredited program is preferred.  

                                Doctoral degree in a field appropriate to providing academic leadership in the health sciences preferred.

                                Clinical practicum coordination experience is preferred.                                                                             Interprofessional education and interdisciplinary clinical experiences are preferred.

    Abilities:             Ability to consistently instruct and counsel students in an informative and professional manner

                                 Able and willing to learn new skills as needed, especially to work with new instructional technologies  

                                 Ability to develop and implement courses and programs

                                

    Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in radiological sciences, medical imaging sciences, or health professions; ; state licensure or certification in an allied health field preferred and appropriate academic experience; ; established excellence in research, scholarship and teaching; and excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills are required. Salary and rank for this position are commensurate with qualifications.

The SHP recently received approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer a new master’s degree in Imaging Sciences with a proposed start date in Fall 2023. Advanced training is available through doctoral degree programs in Physical Therapy and Health Sciences (Ph.D. in Health Sciences) to prepare future faculty and researchers in allied health is under development.
