Nature of Work
The Division of Health Care Policy and Research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications for a faculty (MD/DO, PhD, or equivalent) position with formal training in economics, health economics, health policy, health services research, or related fields. This Assistant Professor position will further enhance the Division’s portfolio of health services research and/or economic sciences in health care delivery, financing, outcomes, and policy. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: economic evaluation methods, health care data science, health care delivery science, implementation science, Medicaid and Medicare policy research, and/or value-based care/insurance models.
The mission of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research (HCPR) is to design and conduct health services research, policy analyses, and evaluations of innovations, programs, and policies that increase the value of health care services from multiple perspectives and across the lifespan and generations. HCPR faculty members investigate how dissemination, implementation (as well as de-implementation when appropriate), and sustainability of innovations in health care services, payment models, quality improvement, quality measurement approaches, and delivery system structures influence both individual and population-level outcomes and value throughout our healthcare system. In addition to grant funded projects, HCPR actively pursues contract funding from federal and state government agencies.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers leading and contributing to innovative projects that focus on:
• Medicare and Medicaid policies and regulations.
• Clinical and system interventions aimed at improving health system performance and value, including long-term and post-acute care services (e.g., nursing home, home health, and transitional care), hospice, and palliative care.
• Health outcomes research.
• Improving patient safety in all settings.
• Reducing health care disparities.
HCPR enjoys extensive and successful collaborations with numerous academic and clinical units across the Anschutz Medical Campus. In addition to collaborations with other Divisions in the Department of Medicine and other School of Medicine Departments, HCPR faculty are actively engaged with the Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS), the Eugene S. Farley Jr. Health Policy Center, the Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado Health, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System. Beyond campus, faculty collaborate with Denver Health and Hospital Authority, other innovative healthcare systems, and state government agencies.
Examples of Work Performed
The successful candidate will conduct rigorous, externally-funded research that contributes to the Division’s mission. The incumbent will play a role in the expansion of currently funded programs, funding acquisition in new promising areas, and help develop collaborative relationships across the Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as with external partners. In collaboration with other HCPR faculty, the successful candidate will have access to a robust data environment that includes a campus-wide clinical data warehouse, a statewide all-payor claims database, regional electronic health data networks, and access to restricted state and federal data sources.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Contributing to or leading the development of proposals to obtain extramural funding for research.
