JOB SUMMARY

Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking a full time researcher with a PhD degree in the Health and Behavioral Sciences and a strong publication record at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position requires enthusiasm and vision for developing an outstanding program of research in type 1 diabetes. This position offers the opportunity to work in one of the premier diabetes centers in the country and to develop into an investigator who is prepared to write a successful NIH or JDRF individual mentored award, or an independent research award for applicants with greater research experience.  This position will be responsible for not only developing an independent research program, but will also be responsible for producing scholarship in the form of peer reviewed manuscripts and presentations at national meetings; teaching and mentoring of graduate students, fellows and junior faculty; and service to the University and scientific community.

The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes (BDC) is the largest diabetes institute in the world specializing in type 1 diabetes research and care for children and adults. Over 200 clinicians, clinical researchers, basic biomedical scientists and supporting staff work at the BDC to find the most effective treatment, prevention, and cure for type 1 diabetes. The Center provides state-of-the-art diabetes care to over 7,000 children and adults with diabetes as well as inpatient care at the Children’s Hospital Colorado. The dedicated Children’s Diabetes Foundation has generously supported the BDC mission, since 1977.

  • A commitment to an academic career in type 1 diabetes research, teaching and service.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

  • This position reports to Prof. Janet Snell-Bergeon, Director, BDC Clinical Epidemiology Division.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

  • The Assistant Professor will supervise other employees including  research services positions, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $120,000 to $125,000.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: Ph.D. in health or social sciences
  • Post-doctoral fellowship training and/or at least two years of previous faculty experience at the Instructor level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse research and clinical environment
  • Experience conducting research in the epidemiology of type 1 diabetes
  • A track record of having received pilot study or career development award funding
  • Leadership skills and vision for enhancing the research mission of the Center
  • Applicants will have demonstrated exceptional skills in their fellowship research program or junior faculty experience with a strong record of scholarly activity and peer reviewed publications.
