Organizational Unit Overview East Carolina University (ECU) is classified as a R2-Doctoral/Research-Intensive University and is a member of the 17-campus University of North Carolina System. The ECU Department of Economics offers B.A. and B.S. undergraduate degrees and an M.S. in Quantitative Economics and Econometrics. Members of the Department of Economics actively collaborate with other colleges, centers, and institutes including those at ECU’s Brody School of Medicine, the Center for Natural Hazards Research, and the Water Resources Center. In addition, department faculty participate in several interdisciplinary graduate programs, including the Integrated Coastal Sciences PhD program administered in the Department of Coastal Studies (https://coastal.ecu.edu/coastalstudies/integrated-coastal-sciences/ ). The department seeks to create a collaborative inclusive environment that is appealing to a diverse body of faculty, students, and staff. We seek colleagues who will use innovative learning strategies to maximize student access in order to create a thriving future for our economics students as well as promote regional economic transformation through teaching, research, and engagement.
Job Duties Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position (9-month appointment) in the Department of Economics at the Assistant Professor rank, focused on Applied Microeconomics, to begin August 2023. Candidates are expected to develop an active research agenda, a commitment to innovative pedagogy, and a strong record of teaching and service to the university and profession. Successful candidates will have advanced analytical skills and research interests that are pertinent for public policy analysis. Areas of research interest to the department include: regional economics, labor, environmental/energy, or health.

Minimum Education/Experience A PhD in Economics or a closely related field is required. However, ABD candidates may be considered. Initial appointment will be at the probationary-term rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates must have the terminal degree conferred prior to first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
