Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) – faculty positions within the university that are not tenure track and not eligible for tenure; on a fixed term contract. Persons with the title of professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, assistant professor-clinical and instructor-clinical. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty department and, as appropriate, regional campus; Clinical faculty are teacher/practitioners and will be engaged primarily in teaching activities. These faculty normally have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field or equivalent experience.
The Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University is offering a full-time (9/12-month) Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Kinesiology – Health and Exercise Science program. The Kinesiology program is consistently ranked among the top programs in the country based on its innovative research activity and vibrant curriculum making it a preeminent place for the professional development of students and faculty. We seek a faculty member with demonstrated clinical expertise and extensive teaching and mentorship experience in undergraduate/graduate health and exercise science education. Specifically, the successful candidate must demonstrate:
- teaching and clinical supervision excellence;
- a commitment to the education and mentorship of undergraduate/graduate students through course instruction, and supervision of internship, practicum, and undergraduate research experiences;
- an interest in building relationships with regional campuses to develop pathways into the exercise science major;
- a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching, clinical, mentoring and service agendas;
- appropriate expertise in exercise science to afford M status at the Graduate School of The Ohio State University;
- expertise to contribute to one or more of the following Pillars in the College of Education and Human Ecology: Early Childhood, Urban and Rural Education, Health and Economic Vitality, and Internalization and Global Engagement.
This position will begin in August of 2022. Our undergraduate and graduate Health and Exercise Science programs train students to work in a variety of clinical environments, the fitness industry and/or prepares them to go on to post-graduate education in allied health professions, medical school and master’s and doctoral programs in Exercise Science.

Qualifications: At the time of appointment, candidates are required to have a doctorate in Exercise Science and the American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist certification. Candidates must have an established record of teaching and clinical activities commensurate with the rank of assistant clinical professor at The Ohio State University, experience mentoring undergraduate students, and a commitment to quality teaching, clinical supervision, and mentorship of graduate students. Candidates with experience teaching basic exercise physiology systems as they respond to acute and chronic exercise, exercise prescription, electrocardiography, exercise programming for special populations and healthy adults, exercise as lifestyle medicine, internships and practical experience are preferred. Candidates who have an interest in developing relevant exercise science certifications such as the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist and experience in securing professional accreditation in Exercise Science will be desirable. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience or interest in teaching exercise as lifestyle medicine to the general university population. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching, clinical, and service agendas.
Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in exercise science; supervise undergraduate and master’s students in internships, practicum and clinical research, provide leadership to the undergraduate program in Health and Exercise Science, and participate in Department, College, and professional service activities.

DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SCIENCES: The Department of Human Sciences is home to four core academic areas, offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees: Consumer Sciences, Human Development and Family Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Kinesiology. In addition, the department plays a leadership role in Ohio State’s Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Nutrition (OSUN ), and houses the Sport, Fitness and Health Program, an activity-based academic program providing classes to more than 8,000 Ohio State students each year. A strong partnership with OSU Extension enhances opportunities for outreach and engagement in the state of Ohio. Another important university partnership exists with Ohio State’s Discovery Themes , with an emphasis in our department on metabolomics.
The department has a faculty of 53 productive members, with grants from local, state, and federal organizations such as NSF, NIH, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Faculty also have funding from a host of industry- and community-based organizations. In FY 2017, Human Sciences had $3M expenditures from current awards and 14 new awards totaling $5.1M. Ten graduate majors and nine undergraduate majors are housed within the department; students may choose from 36 curricular options. In autumn 2017, 11,638 undergraduate and 584 graduate students were enrolled in coursework of the department.
