Job Summary | The Public Health program in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications from outstanding individuals to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a talented, hard-working faculty to make substantial contributions to the continued growth of our academic and research programs in a thriving Public Health program. We currently offer a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, a Graduate Certificate in Public Health Studies, a Graduate Certificate in Diversity and Equity in Public Health, and a Master’s in Public Health. The position will be supported by a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, as well as a start-up package and research space. Department and College of Nursing and Health Innovation Information Public Health is a rapidly growing undergraduate and graduate program focused on the Department of Kinesiology. The department also offers multiple other undergraduate and graduate programs including integrative and applied physiology, movement and rehabilitation science, physical education, and athletic training to approximately 1,700 students (combined undergraduate and masters and doctoral level graduate students). Faculty in the Department of Kinesiology are funded by a wide range of agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Science Foundation, the American Heart Association, and many others. The University of Texas at Arlington and the Department of Kinesiology offers all faculty members access to state-of the art research facilities. In addition, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is a hot-bed for biomedical and health-related research; the Department of Kinesiology and College of Nursing and Health Innovation have existing collaborations with regional, national, and internationally recognized institutions. Our faculty’s vast teaching experience, research expertise, and dedication to service provide rich learning experiences across the department’s academic programs. Department faculty actively collaborates with our nursing colleagues within the college in areas such as workplace safety, community-dwelling elders, early interventions for children and community-based interventions for obesity in underrepresented/minority populations. Collaboration with colleagues in other departments, such as Disability Studies and the School of Social Work are common. We foster and support multidisciplinary research and education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The position will involve approximately 40% time devoted to teaching, 40% time devoted to research and scholarly activities, and 20% time devoted to service. In addition, the candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued growth of the public health program and serve as a faculty mentor for undergraduate and graduate students. |
Required Qualifications | All candidates must have a Doctoral degree in Public Health or a related field and must demonstrate a research program with current external funding or a strong potential to obtain external funding. Candidates should have a broad understanding and interest in multidisciplinary studies of how social determinants of health affect the health of urban populations. Relevant research backgrounds may include evaluation, health disparities, social determinants of health, and social and economic development, among others. |
Preferred Qualifications | The ideal candidate will be able to significantly contribute to the overarching theme of programming and research in health and disease across the lifespan with a Public Health focus. While all areas of Public Health research will be considered, preference will be given to those with an academic interest and research background in disciplines encompassed within Epidemiology and Urban Health. |
