Job Summary The Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology invites applications for one full-time tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2023. The expected salary for this nine-month contract position is $55,000. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience who can teach a wide spectrum of core courses. Successful candidates should be able to teach a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses on campus and online and be able to conduct scholarly research.
The department offers both BA and BS degrees, an MA degree (online and on-ground), and a graduate certificate program. The department serves approximately 400 undergraduate and 40 graduate students. The department currently has six tenure-track faculty, one Professor of Practice, one lecturer, and numerous part-time faculty.
The ETSU main campus is in Johnson City, Tennessee, in the beautiful Appalachian Highlands region. The area is characterized by small towns, rich artistic traditions, and many outdoor experiences. Asheville is less than an hour’s drive; Knoxville is just 90 minutes. Within 45 minutes of campus, you can hike on the Appalachian Trail and explore the world-famous rhododendron gardens atop Roan Mountain. The mountain streams create recreation opportunities for skiing, boating, and bass fishing on nearby TVA lakes, while the mountain ridges just over the border in western North Carolina offer snow skiing; and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is just two hours away.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate in criminal justice, criminology, or a closely-related field, is required at the time of appointment. Other disciplines (e.g., sociology, political science, education, administration, or international studies) may be considered but must be accompanied by experience, background, or criminal justice or criminology scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and ability to teach a wide spectrum of core courses.
