Examples of Work Performed

Director of Acute Care Education:

  • The hired candidate will be afforded the title of Director of Acute Care Education for CHCO Section of Emergency Medicine. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate education for our emergency pediatricians and advanced practice providers to enhance their ability to care for acutely ill and injured children. This includes organization leadership in:
    • Acute Care Education (ACE) days
    • Annual Pediatric Acute Illness and Injury Conference
  • As a member of the Section of Emergency Medicine, you will be expected to participate in academic programs within the Section, in accordance with our educational mission. This will include, but is not limited to:
  • Development and teaching of simulation for faculty, fellows, and other medical trainees
  • Participation and/or leadership of potential simulation research projects originating within the Section or from external collaboration
  • Participation in pre-hospital and EMS simulation-based education
  • Publication of studies related to clinical and procedural skills development
  • The candidate will be expected to attend Section academic activities, including but not limited to:
  • Section academic conferences
  • Section research Works-in-Progress
  • Section Continuing Medical Education conference
  • Simulation sessions across the continuum of emergency medicine

100% Clinical Effort (0.80 cFTE):

  • You will be expected to maintain 0.80 cFTE (clinical effort). Clinical Practitioners at 0.80 cFTE will be expected to provide coverage for 1101 hours annually. Clinical hours obligations are subject to change. This coverage will consist of Children’s Hospital Colorado and its Network of Care (NOC), including Colorado Springs (in extenuating circumstances only). Coverage will include:
  • Pediatric emergency and urgent care
  • Pediatric Observation Unit medicine
  • Jeopardy shifts (an internal physician coverage system for unanticipated absence)
  • Practitioner must maintain active medical staff privileges at all other facilities where ED or urgent care services are provided by the Children’s Hospital Colorado NOC unless a site is specifically excluded by mutual agreement by the practitioner and the medical director of the Children’s Hospital Colorado NOC.
  • The candidate will be expected to attend at least 75% of the official monthly Joint Section and Operational Updates meetings for the Network of Care /Section of Emergency Medicine (SOEM).
  • You will be required to participate in Children’s Hospital Colorado Anschutz Campus OR with anesthesiology one time per year to maintain airway skills as well as other technical seminars as deemed by the section and/or practice site in conjunction with input from the medical director.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position has been established at $202,995.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics
  • Active certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Active Colorado Medical License or will have at time of hire
  • Active Colorado State DEA license or will have at time of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years’ experience in pediatric acute care environment (OR completing a Pediatric Residency program with significant experience in Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care and electives and/or extra-clinical activities that demonstrate clear interest in pediatric urgent care)
  • Experience teaching medical students and residents
  • Experience with Point of Care Ultrasound in clinical environment

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of pediatric disease and injury patterns
  • Understanding of and familiarity with resources to assist in making clinical decisions and diagnosis

Skills

  • Use of electronic medical record (EPIC)
  • Teaching of medical learners
  • Effectively and respectfully field calls from referring physicians to facilitate referral to site appropriate for presenting problem/service requested and transport to site

Technical skills

  • Interpretation of plain radiographs
  • Foreign body removal
  • Laceration repair, including vermillion border and nail bed repair (some advanced techniques can be learned on job)
  • Incision and drainage
  • Reduction of minor digit fractures or joint dislocations (can be learned on job)
  • Nerve blocks
  • Lumbar puncture
  • IV fluid management of electrolyte and endocrine derangements
  • Acute respiratory care
  • Intubation (ongoing yearly skills training mandatory)
  • Pediatric resuscitation (must maintain PALS certification and complete required annual mock resuscitations)

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check
