Position Summary

The Department of
Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is
seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek an innovative
and collaborative researcher and educator in broad areas of chemical engineering.
Applications are particularly encouraged, but not limited to areas related to energy
and conversion processes, bio, materials, soft matter, and sustainability. The successful candidate will have
the ability to develop a high-impact independent research program that cuts
across disciplines, departments, and research centers, and the dedication to
teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The
University of New Mexico is the only Carnegie-classified R1 (very high research
activity) university in the state. Our faculty benefit and actively collaborate
with federally funded research centers (https://research.unm.edu/centers-institutes, https://engineering.unm.edu/research/research-centers.html), a nationally ranked School of Medicine, and nearby
laboratories (Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and

Qualified candidates
will have earned a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline
by the time of appointment and must have the ability and dedication to
contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching activities, as well as the
ability to contribute to graduate education and professional development within
the interdisciplinary chemical engineering graduate program. Applicants should
also have evidence of potential for developing a nationally and internationally
recognized research program. All applicants should have
a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success,
as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications must be consistent with Higher Learning Commission standards and compliant with the faculty hiring guidelines.

  • PhD in Chemical and/or Biological Engineering, or closely related field by date of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have evidence of potential for developing a nationally and internationally recognized research program
  • Record of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Ability and dedication to contribute to graduate education and professional development within the graduate program 
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
