Position Information
| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Department of City and Regional Planning is an academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department engages in teaching, primarily at the graduate level; conducts applied research on urban and regional issues; and serves the state, nation, and planning profession. The department offers a Masters in City and Regional Planning, a PhD, and an undergraduate minor. In any given year there are about 85 Masters students enrolled, 35 doctoral students and a growing cadre of undergraduates and students enrolled in dual degree programs. The faculty consists of 13 tenure-track faculty members along with research and emeritus professors all of whom are active in the teaching and research programs of the department. The faculty usually generates over $3.0 million annual in about 40 research or training grants. |

| Position Summary | The Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with appointment beginning as early as July 1, 2023. We seek to hire scholars doing innovative research with a focus on equity and community engagement. We seek scholars who show a strong promise of research excellence and a desire to train and work with a diverse body of students. We especially encourage applications from scholars conducting work on equity and engagement related to the following subfields: real estate development, housing, transportation or community and economic development. | Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Planning or related fields by the start date of the appointment. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | The successful candidate will be expected to develop or extend a record of scholarly contribution as well as contribute to teaching and service at all levels. |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities | This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
