Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Department of City and Regional Planning is an academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department engages in teaching, primarily at the graduate level; conducts applied research on urban and regional issues; and serves the state, nation, and planning profession. The department offers a Masters in City and Regional Planning, a PhD, and an undergraduate minor. In any given year there are about 85 Masters students enrolled, 35 doctoral students and a growing cadre of undergraduates and students enrolled in dual degree programs. The faculty consists of 13 tenure-track faculty members along with research and emeritus professors all of whom are active in the teaching and research programs of the department. The faculty usually generates over $3.0 million annual in about 40 research or training grants.
Position Summary The Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with appointment beginning as early as July 1, 2023. We seek to hire scholars doing innovative research with a focus on equity and community engagement. We seek scholars who show a strong promise of research excellence and a desire to train and work with a diverse body of students. We especially encourage applications from scholars conducting work on equity and engagement related to the following subfields: real estate development, housing, transportation or community and economic development. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Planning or related fields by the start date of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience The successful candidate will be expected to develop or extend a record of scholarly contribution as well as contribute to teaching and service at all levels.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
