| Position Summary | The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies (WGST) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose research and teaching focus on WGST and American Indian and Indigenous studies (AIIS), with a preference for specialization in transgender studies, beginning academic year 2022-23. The selected candidate will be expected to teach two courses per semester at all levels of our curriculum, publish actively, and offer service to the Department/University. This position is part of a cluster within the College of Arts and Sciences and the candidate will join the faculty alongside several other specialists in affiliation with the AIIS program. In coordination with the cluster hire, the Dean of the College has convened a Working Group to seriously explore the development of an independent Curriculum in American Indian and Indigenous Studies. We invite applications from dynamic and outstanding scholars who will offer substantive research and teaching expertise in this field. Selected candidates will contribute to our ongoing process of reimagining scholarly, curricular and community engagement around Native North America and global Indigeneity in the College of Arts and Sciences. Together with the AIIS cluster cohort, the candidate will contribute to the University’s resources supporting Native community members, which also includes the American Indian Center, the First Nations Graduate Circle, and the Carolina Indian Circle. The WGST Department at UNC is committed to hearing and amplifying the voices of the marginalized, interrogating and challenging heteropatriarchal white supremacy in all its manifestations, and working, as the UNC mission statement declares, to improve society and to help solve the world’s greatest problems. We seek a colleague who shares these commitments (see https://college.unc.edu/diversity). |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities | Not Applicable. |
| Special Instructions | Interested applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy including a list of courses taught, a statement describing one’s commitment and contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or outreach and engagement uploaded as “other document”, an article-length writing sample, and a list of four professional references (including e-mail addresses and phone numbers). Additional materials, including a teaching portfolio, may be requested during the applicant review process. Applications must be received by November 15, 2022. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability. |
