Position Information
| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | With 32 faculty, the Department of Health Behavior trains students and engages in multidisciplinary research to generate knowledge that promotes the health of individuals and communities in the U.S. and globally. Training programs lead to MPH, MSPH, and PhD degrees and prepare students for careers in public health research, teaching, administration, and practice. The Department is developing a new Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health (BSPH) program in Community and Global Health and will expand offerings of undergraduate courses in the coming years. The Department is committed to research and practice that advances social justice and especially seeks candidates who will add to the diversity of its faculty. | Position Summary | UNC’s Department of Health Behavior invites applications for up to two tenure-track faculty positions as Assistant Professor. Substantive area of expertise for these 12-month, full-time positions is open. We are especially interested in colleagues who can extend our behavioral science expertise in the areas of cancer prevention, mental health, behavioral aspects of climate change, Latinx health, and health communication, including digital health. Also of special interest are researchers who can build on the Department’s current strengths in research to advance health equity, anti-racism, and policy/systems change. Prioritized areas of methodological expertise include quantitative methods and community-based participatory research methods. Candidates should have interest in and ability to teach at the undergraduate or graduate levels. Positions will primarily focus on research and scholarly productivity with contributions to the teaching and mentoring of students and service in the department. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | A demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion is required.The applicant must have a doctorate (PhD, ScD, or DrPH) in public health, public policy, social and behavioral science, or related field. Applicants must have a strong publication record and evidence for strong potential to establish a research program supported by external funding. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Successful candidates will include those who can support departmental instructional needs in areas such as quantitative research methods; health behavior foundations and theory; program planning, implementation, and evaluation; or community engagement. |

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities | This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
