Assistant Professor

Position Description:

The Institute for Health and Equity, Division of Epidemiology & Social Sciences is seeking to hire a motivated, collaborative, innovative evaluator at the level of Assistant Professor on the Clinician-Educator Path. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

EDUCATION 

• Serve as Course Director in the MS Global Health Equity Program
• Design new cultural competency course for MCW medical and graduate students for working with Native American populations.
• Medical School Counselor and advisor to medical students, especially in Regional Campuses
• Oversee a mentorship program to connect tribal youth to the health sciences

RESEARCH 

• Contribute as a Co-Investigator on grant funded research proposals
• Serve as embedded community liaison to represent MCW on the reservation, conduct regular meetings and site visits with key partners in the Great Lakes regions (emphasis on tribal reservation contacts). Identify health key issues to tribal members to work on innovative solutions with MCW. Identify key personnel interested in collaborating on research projects.
• Specialize in recruitment of Native American research participants to improve representation in biomedical data

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT 

• Serve as an ambassador with MCW-Children’s Wisconsin where we are strengthening our ties with the Native American Communities
• Regularly reports community engagement efforts from MCW to tribal leadership. (Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council board of Directors, individual Tribal Chairs, as well as Minnesota and Michigan Inter-Tribal Councils).
• Specialize in community engagement methodology, digital storytelling, cultural events, and networking. Teach these methods to MCW personnel.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Native American studies, education and evaluation, or closely related fields. Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate leadership and excellent communication skills and to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) has approximately 1,600 full-time and part-time faculty. The Medical College offers medical, master’s, doctorates, master of public health and master of art degrees. The Medical College works with national and international medical specialty societies and community hospitals to accredit approximately 200 continuing medical education activities annually for physicians and other health professionals.
