The Astronomy Department at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. We seek new colleagues to join our highly ranked and vibrant faculty and university community. We encourage candidates who demonstrate outstanding research and commitment to teaching and community development within any area of astronomy and astrophysics to apply. Successful candidates will have a research program that enhances Cornell’s high-visibility program by either building on current strengths or introducing new directions that complement areas of ongoing work.

We particularly encourage applicants from groups that are underrepresented in physical sciences, such as women; Black, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, and Latinx scholars; as well as individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans. We expect candidates to have an established record of high-impact research and to demonstrate the potential to build an externally-funded independent research program. The successful candidate will teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and so a record of excellence in and/or commitment to teaching, mentorship and diversity are sought. A Ph.D. in astrophysics, planetary sciences or a closely related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred.
