Position description
The Department of Pediatric Surgery at McGill University invites applicants for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Scientist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre and the Shriner’s Hospital Canada. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment. This is a contract faculty position and does not confer tenure eligibility.
Job Duties
As a clinician-scientist, the successful candidate will become a member of the Shriner’s Research Centre, joining one of its eight active research programs. The candidate will be expected to apply for external salary support from appropriate funding agencies (i.e., CIHR, FRQS), and to eventually obtain external operating grants for their research. Start-up funding may be available on a competitive basis. As a clinician-scientist, the candidate will be expected to devote at least 50% of their time to research.
The Shriner’s Research Centre is dedicated to enriching the careers of recruits and will provide mentoring and integration within dynamic research programs.
The successful candidate will participate in undergraduate and graduate clinical pediatric teaching, and have the opportunity to engage in a busy tertiary care, academic, and clinical practice. The candidate must have experience in sports medicine, especially upper extremity. The candidate should be comfortable in performing arthroscopy in shoulder, elbow, and wrist, and should have experience in experimental surgery, preferably basic science.
The Division of Orthopedic Surgery has research activities in bone metabolism and gait analysis. The incumbent will provide medical and surgical services to pediatric patients, including ICU, ER, and on call coverage. The Division maintains an active and accredited Royal College training program.
The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission, provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to diverse residents and medical students, and pursue scholarly activities in advancing clinical care or clinical research.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Applicants will have subspecialty training in pediatric orthopedics with expertise in sports medicine and experimental surgery;
- At least 2 years’ experience is required in academic orthopedics;
- Applicants must have an MD and hold or be eligible for licensure as an orthopedist in the province of Québec;
- Fluency in English and French is required.
