Position Details

General Statement	Culinary Services (CS), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals for over 12,000 customers a day and is an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CS proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, 9 retail operations, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery & Salads, and the Farm to Campus Program. The 2 dining halls serve over 10,000 meals per day operating a total of 7 days a week providing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
Duties and Responsibilities	Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Assistant Manager is a working supervisory position that assists with managing the dining hall front of house operations for their assigned shift (AM or PM). Maintains an efficiently run, large volume/high activity operation. Ensures excellent customer service. Ensures staffing levels are appropriate and duties are being completed for each shift. Assigns job responsibilities to staff regarding regular and special duties. Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines staff, seeking Manager assistance as appropriate. Performs a variety of administrative, payroll, and inventory duties. Performs a variety of cashier and cash handling duties. Actively works in all areas as needed in preparation and service of product, and to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the operation. Maintains facilities and equipment while communicating repair needs to upper management. And actively contributes to the success of the department while performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills	Progressively responsible management experience in the food industry *or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience*. Supervisory experience coordinating, directing, and evaluating the work of others. Proficient experience using computers and various software packages.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills	Advanced degree or certificate in business, the hospitality field, culinary arts, or closely related fields. Large volume and/or high activity food service experience. Experience with inventory control. Experience ordering food and supplies.
The Successful Candidate Will	Positively and professionally perform all the functions of the position while providing excellent customer service. Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate employees to perform at and sustain a high level of quality. Prioritize and organize workload in order to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment. Maintain compliance with policy and procedure. Exhibit accurate record keeping skills. Quickly adapt to changing priorities. Follow health and sanitation guidelines for food preparation and handling. Be knowledgeable about State and Federal health and food safety guidelines. Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with CS staff in a team-oriented environment.

May occasionally work outside and in inclement weather assisting with special events. Possess an 8-hour management sanitation certification or have the ability to become certified.
Physical Demands	To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Normal office and kitchen/cooler/freezer environments. Work for long periods of time at a computer or on the phone. Stationary and/or moving about for long periods of time while on the floor. Move and place odd shaped items while conducting business. Move objects up to 30lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Use small kitchen utensils and other equipment. Performing repetitive motions such as, but not limited to, chopping, stirring and serving. Exposure to cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
