Assistant Maintenance Manager

Responsible for supporting the management of a team (including the Senior Maintenance Technician) and the planned preventative and reactive maintenance throughout College buildings, ensuring adherence to operational, regulatory and statutory compliance requirements. Ensuring records of planned and reactive maintenance are regularly checked and are to a high standard.

The role will have managerial responsibility for the operational performance and safety of buildings at all times and will liaise with specialist sub-contractors, other building dedicated engineers and clients to maintain high quality service delivery and maximum system uptime.  

The Assistant Maintenance Manager will support the Maintenance Manager in analysing performance, ensuring the team follows best practice and will carry out tasks such as raising permits and purchase orders. The AMM will also be expected to use the CAFM system (Planon) to manage planned and reactive work. 

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract

This is a full-time post

•      Responsible for the effective delivery of Hard Services and Fabric Maintenance across designated buildings located within the estate. 

•      Maintaining Risk Management systems. 

•      Responsible for technicians and contractors involved in the delivery of the mechanical, electrical, BMS and building fabric services within the designated locations in terms of safety and quality. 

•      To ensure that the team is trained and competent for the roles for which they are responsible. 

•      Management of specific statutory compliance requirements applicable in terms of both execution and record keeping. 

•      Keep up to date on health and safety procedures and policies. 

•      Responsible for contractor inductions and permits. 

•      Delivery of a value-for-money service to the College including managing quotes and purchase orders. 

•      Leadership with regards to energy reduction, and the implementation of KCL’s Environmental policy.  

•      Support the Maintenance Manager with reporting particularly with regards to the CAFM system. 

•      Undertake regular audits on the team and assets.  

•       Meet regularly with the team.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria  

1.       City and Guilds or time serviced apprenticeship in either M&E 

2.       NVQ level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering 

3.       IOSH Managing Safely 

4.       Legionella awareness 

5.       Good level of IT literacy including Excel (reporting) 

6.       Experience raising permits, purchase orders and managing quotes 

7.       Managerial experience 

8.       Knowledge of critical engineering environments 

9.       Good health and safety knowledge 

10.   Strong customer service skills

1.       NEBOSH 

2.       ILM3 

3.       First Aid 

4.       CAFM experience
