Required Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or 60 plus hours of college hours in a related discipline such as Science or Engineering or fields such as Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering Technology.
- Two years of related experience in safety and health. Some related experience in safety and health required with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline such as Science or Engineering or fields such as Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering Technology.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with environmental safety and health rules, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid State of Texas driver license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire
- Failure to obtain a valid TDL may result in termination
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Degree in a related discipline such as Science or Engineering.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work around radioactive materials
- Knowledge of radiation survey instruments
Responsibilities:
- RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL MANAGEMENT AND DISPOSAL – Acts as radioactive waste program team lead. Schedules and performs waste pickups from on-campus and off-site labs. Transports waste to and checks-in/organizes waste within storage facility according to disposal plan. This requires the operation of a university vehicle. Schedules solid and liquid waste sampling, sorting, and disposal activities.
- INSTRUMENT CALIBRATION – Coordinates the scheduling, pickup, and shipping of all radiological detector systems needing vendor calibration for which EHS is responsible. Provides and manages loaner detector inventory. Handles invoicing when necessary and coordinates with EHS and departmental business associates to effect vendor payment to avoid delays in detector returns.
- RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL SHIPPING – Coordinates the shipment of radioactive materials and/or any packages containing radioactive material from campus to include picking up material from labs, surveying for contamination, packaging, labeling, manifesting, scheduling carrier pickup, and coordinating with originator and receiver to ensure package delivery.
- DOSIMETRY – Assists with distribution and pickup personnel and area monitor dosimetry badges to campus.
- SURVEYS AND INVENTORY – Assists with performing radiation and/or contamination surveys and inventory verification as needed. Without supervision, compiles necessary equipment to perform surveys and instrument response checks, perform surveys and response checks, load LSC, paperwork, and report management.
- RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL HANDLING – Assists with receipt and delivery to lab of radioactive materials for the campus as needed. Tasks include covering lab, performing MDA calculations, performing package check-in procedure, and managing paperwork.
- EMERGENCY RESPONSE – Coordinates emergency response and provides technical expertise for radiological incidents, as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
