Job description

Established in 1828, the University of Central Lancashire is a leading modern University located in the city of Preston.  The Estates Department is responsible for the Security and the Ground Maintenance for the Preston Campus and all satellite sites including UCLan Sports Arena. The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance, landscaping, general housekeeping ensuring that a safe environment for all users and visitors is experienced.

 

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Grounds Person who will assist predominantly with the planting and horticulture on the Preston main campus and other satellite sites, who will assist in the maintenance of UCLan grounds by undertaking the following areas: lawn and shrub, herbaceous border maintenance and refurbishment and development of soft landscaped areas.

 

The successful candidate will require recent experience in all aspects of amenity horticulture or evidence of experiential learning and be conversant with the use of horticultural equipment and will have sound plant identification skills and environmental / industry experience. You will hold a basic Horticultural qualification NVQ1 or evidence of experiential learning, have evidence of numeracy and literacy skills and have an awareness of basic Health and Safety Legislation and will hold a driving licence (with no more than 3 penalty points). 

 

The successful candidate will require recent experience within the horticultural industry. They will be expected to have experience operating grounds maintenance equipment and hold a current driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points. You must be able to possess the ability to work as part of a team and essentially to work outdoors in all weather.

 

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston.
